New Books at OCC for 2023, Part 2: YA, NF, F
Remember to check out the Read Great Things 2023 Challenge-- there are lots of options below! Fiction, including some literary fiction, mysteries, contemporary romances/"women's fiction" [which your librarian has an issue with the classification even if she does like the genre, since many books that are considered "literary fiction" written by men but dealing the the same issues of family and relationships are lauded], some fantasy, and some books that defy genres [a word that simply means type
Cooking the Books: Durham Tech Librarians Test-Drive Our Cookbooks
We know you can get innumerable recipes online, but there's just something about a cookbook that someone has put together and (hopefully) tested the recipes until they're just right. Both Durham Tech Library locations with circulating book collections have cookbooks available. From classics to new releases, check out the TX location on our shelves for all your cookbook needs. Prefer to read your cookbook on a tablet? The NC LIVE HomeGrown Ebooks Collection has some real gems-- from bacon to

Durham Tech Virtual Crafternoon: Paper Stars!
It's time for another virtual Crafternoon! Crafternoons are a partnership between the Durham Tech Student Government Association and the Library. Today, I'll walk through how to make paper stars, which--depending on the size of paper you use-- can be used as a decorative wreath or just decoration. Heck, if you want to make a lot of them, you can even make a paper star garland! Do you want six pages of scrapbook paper to make your own paper star wreath? We have some scrapbook paper kits available
Yellow Books for the Annual Pollening
It's that time of year again. You know what I mean. https://youtu.be/WzusALvGH7U Since we can't avoid it (unless we never leave the house) or control it, we may as well accept it and cope as best we can with itchy eyes, stuffy noses, and a dream of the few perfect days before the humidity settles in our bones. Here are some blonde books to read outside (after taking your allergy meds) to soak up the spring weather with canary covers to hide the pollen. Click on the link in the caption to access
Introducing the Library's Book Club
The Library is excited to announce our student, faculty, and staff book club! We will have our first meeting on Monday, Oct. 19th at 3pm in the ERC Schwartz conference room. The first book selection is I Am Malala by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai. The library has several copies of the book available for borrowing and you can ask for a copy at the desk. Here is a description of the book from the GoodReads website: When the Taliban took control of the Swat Valley in Pakistan, one girl
Celebrating International Pronouns Day

Smarter in Seconds: Pronouns, What are pronouns? (30 sec.) The language we use to speak to and about others matters. Using gender-inclusive language and a person’s correct name and pronouns demonstrates kindness, respect, and inclusivity. People can make assumptions based on a person’s name or appearance
What We're Listening To: Atlas of the Heart by Brené Brown
Emotional intelligence is HARD, but being able to identify where your emotions are coming from and actually having the language to identify those emotions (and the differences between them) can help. This book was read via audiobook by Meredith Lewis, the (mostly) Orange County Campus Librarian. Title: Atlas of the Heart: Mapping Meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experience Author and Narrator: Brené Brown Genre: Psychology, Social Science, Self-Help/Awareness/Mindfulness Read
