What We're Reading: All We Can Save
This book. This book, y'all. This book gave me a big hug. It cuddled me close and told me that everything is not going to be alright. But it also gave me hope that some things can be okay if we're willing to work hard to make it that way. It changed my life. Not in a hyperbolic way. In the way that it shifted my thinking so much that it will have an influence on my actions for the rest of my life. Title: All We Can Save: Truth, Courage, and Solutions for the Climate Crisis Editors: Ayana

In a place that was once the center of the voting rights movement, another struggle faces Lowndes County, Alabama--basic sanitation. Catherine Coleman Flowers examines the class, racial, and geographic conditions that lead to many people not having an affordable way of disposing of sewage. --paraphrased from publisher's summary Title: Waste: One Woman’s Fight Against America’s Dirty Secret Author: Catherine Coleman Flowers Genre: Memoir; Nonfiction Read Great Things 2023 Categories: A book about

The Census Is Coming! (Well, it's already here.)
The 2020 Census Day is right around the corner! April 1 is the official Census Day, but many people have already received and completed their Census in the mail. Due to current health concerns, door-to-door data collection for non-respondents (yes, if you don't fill it out, they will contact you) has been delayed, but it is expected to resume at some point later in the year. Follow-up by mail will still occur. I'm going to be honest with you-- until very recently, I knew next to nothing about
Open Educational Resources in North Carolina Higher Education
March 1-5, 2021 is Open Education Week! North Carolina, like many states, is moving towards making Open Educational Resources a valid alternative to traditional publisher-controlled teaching resources. Today’s blog post will acquaint you with some of the things NC has been doing with OER and hopefully get you thinking about how you might use them to customize your course content (and make life simpler for students!). Check it out! Let me insert a shameless plug for Durham Tech’s OER Team – a
What We're Reading: Pumpkinheads
Josiah and Deja work at the Pumpkin Patch, a seasonal fair with food, animals, and a corn maze. It's their last night of the season and next year they'll be at college unable to work at The Patch.
