It (probably?) should go without saying that snakes and other pets are not allowed in the Durham Tech Library, but just in case you were wondering, based on a pretty popular news article going around lately, service animals must be approved as per college policy. Snakes are not approved service animals. The Library and Student Government Association are hosting craft workshops this spring semester. We made felted wool creations last week. All workshops are from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Library’s Group Study Area room 105A on the lower level. We hope you'll mark your calendars to join us for all of the events. Check out our new books for June. Even thought these are primarily nonfiction, we have lots of popular and literary fiction for summer reading. Search the library's online catalog by title, author, or subject to locate good books. We have a display on the lower level of the library featuring a lot of our new books and a new book shelf by the reference desk full of new titles. Enjoy! We are happy to say that the ERC library computer lab is now up and running again, as of Wednesday afternoon 1/11. This lab is open to all current Durham Tech students (current Durham Tech ID required) doing academic work.
Here are some brand new books that you can check out from the library this week or next week. Our new book shelf is stocked with many new fiction and nonfiction titles for you to borrow. The library is excited to host our fourth annual Student Art Exhibition which features wonderful art works by our talented Associate in Fine Arts students. Paintings, ceramics, sculpture, and drawings are presented. The art will be on display through May 2nd. Enjoy photos of some of the art works in the exhibition below. An opening reception with refreshments will be held on Wed. Apr. 24 from 4:00-6:00 pm in Library Room 212 to celebrate the artists.
Every year, the American Library Association, libraries, bookstores, and other groups and places "celebrate" Banned Books Week the last week in September. While people may object to books based on topic or personal taste, Banned Books Week at its core is about celebrating and promoting the right to read and discouraging blanket censorship of literature based on its subject-matter or presentation.
