Where Have All My Librarians Gone? Library services while everyone is off-campus [Updated July 2020]
The librarians are still here for you, though we're working remotely and with our new [unpaid] coworkers. Note: These coworkers are not very good at accurate typing, so will not be manning the chat. Well, what can we do (and what is a no-go for off-campus work conditions)? What we can do for faculty, staff, and students: Help you do research and find sources without an appointment via ChatStaff, staffed by your Durham Tech librarians from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and available 24 hours. Happy Election Day!
For a bit of background history on why elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, see this article on NPR. During the 2008 elections Nate Silver began making a name for himself by using statistics to more accurately predict election results. The library has a copy of his book, The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail But Some Don't, available under call number CB 158 .S54 2012. The book provides a fascinating look into why numbers used in elections

Don't have cash for HBO or Starz?
Premium cable can be expensive or, if you're like me, you like to marathon an entire season of a show instead of waiting impatiently for the season to unfold. (Thank you, Netflix for indulging me on this.) Well, you Game of Thrones and Outlander fans, have we got the solution for you: Check out the book versions of your favorite series! See all the additional people killed and maimed in books 1-5 of George R.R. Martin's awesome fantasy epics before the new season starts on April 12 on HBO:
N.E.W. at O.C.C. for F.A.L.L.
New season, new books for you to check out from the Orange County Campus Library! Fiction Put a hold on a book to pick up at the Main Campus or Northern Durham Center or stop by the Orange County Campus in Hillsborough to pick it up and see what else is on the shelves. (And say, "Hi." It's nice to see folks.) Want to put a hold on a book in the Orange County Campus collection to either pick up at OCC or at the Main Campus Library? If you already have a Durham Tech Library account and would like
Crafternoon: Tie Dye Kits!
It's time for another make-at-home Crafternoon adventure! The Student Government Association and the Library are giving out tie dye kits to current students, which include three colors (blues, yellows, and reds), gloves, and some rubber bands. You'll provide your own shirt, bag, pants, scarf, hat, whatever you want to dye (in cotton, polyester, or blended fabric). If you would like one, email us at library@durhamtech.edu and we'll schedule a time for you to pick it up. You can also drop by the
September Crafternoon: Decorate Your Own Mug
We've had a few solid days of fall-like weather, which reminds me warm beverage weather. With that in mind, what better way to celebrate the beginning of fall weather than to decorate your own mug? Durham Tech Student Life will mail or reserve for in-library pickup mugs for the first 30 students who submit the September Crafternoon Mug Request Form (link under previous text) between Tuesday, September 22 and Thursday, September 24. One mug per student and current student status is required (and
Reading Great Things in 2021: New Year, New Categories

They arrived while we were away for Winter Break. What is the Read Great Things Challenge? Celebrating LGBT authors and experiences
[caption id="attachment_3391" align="aligncenter" width="1024"] Image from ALA, American Library Association[/caption] This month the library has been celebrating the authors and writings that reflect the lives and experiences of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender community. We have a display of books on the lower level of the library that we will keep up through the end of July.
