How are you sitting?
Here in the library we spend a lot of time on our computers, as do our students. It's easy to start to slump and forget that spending so much time sitting still is hard on our bodies. Here are a couple resources to help us all stay on track, and prevent aches and pains later on. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has a handy guide to how to properly sit at your desk, as well as how to arrange your chairs and keyboards for maximum benefit. The American Chiropractic Association has
What We're Reading: Soulless
This book was read by Courtney Bippley who is a Reference Librarian at the Main Campus Library. Why did you choose to read this book? I’m doing the POPSUGAR reading challenge this year so I read this book to fulfill the steampunk novel requirement. What did you like about it? I enjoyed the main character who, unmarried, is considered to be a spinster but never lets that stop her from doing what she wants. She is a heroine who is very direct in thought, speech, and action, which is refreshing
Dance as Cultural Reflection and Influence
If you've walked by the entrance to the library this week you may have seen our new dance themed window display. Books about dance or that feature dance, both non-fiction and fiction, academic texts to children's books. Complete with dance shoes and a poster advertising the upcoming Dancing the African Diaspora event with Dr. DeFrantz. Dr. Thomas DeFrantz is a professor at Duke University teaching African American Studies, Dance, and Women's Studies. He'll be coming to share his knowledge as

Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute
Tonight is the night of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Gala. It is an exclusive and expensive ($25,000 a ticket!) fundraiser for the museum. We may not be able to attend what has become one of New York City's biggest parties of the year, but we can view the Costume Institute's collection online. That's almost the same, right? Just click here to view clothing from the collection. From gowns to hats to aprons, you can find clothing and jewelry in all kinds of styles from many
Pronunciator for Learning a new Language
The library has just added Pronunciator to its lineup of online resources. Pronunciator is a language learning website, which runs on just about any computer or device. On a computer you’ll need a browser with a recent version of Java and Flash, speakers and a microphone. Simply go to the library homepage and choose " Articles and Electronic Resources." Pronunciator is under "Literature, Languages, and Humanities." At the Pronunciator homepage you're prompted to provide an email address. When
