Durham Tech has a lot of partners that help provide a wide range of services and access to information. One of those partners is UNC Chapel Hill’s North Carolina Digital Heritage Center ( http://www.digitalnc.org). The Center’s mission is support “community engagement and lifelong learning by promoting and increasing access to North Carolina’s cultural heritage.” This includes helping libraries like Durham Tech’s library digitize information, which increases access to the materials. The Library and Student Government Association are hosting craft workshops this fall semester. The Durham Tech Library accomplished a lot this year! We held 72 class instruction sessions in the library to teach 1221 students about information literacy, citations, and how to use our resources. Between the big windows and the stands on the lower level we put up 31 themed displays. Nine hundred and forty-seven new books and DVDs were added to our collection, and that doesn't even include donations from a variety of generous individuals. November is known for Thanksgiving and the beginning of the holiday shopping season, but for writers it's known for something else. November is National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), when people put their fingers to their keyboards and pound out 50,000 words in one month. That's about 1,667 words a day.
