Welcome to the Durham Tech Library blog! I have been a librarian at Durham Tech since October 1989. In the past year, we have made significant improvements to the library space. Some of these, such as a library classroom and better soundproofing, have been needed since the library opened in 1987. May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month. Click read more to check out some awesome reads by and about Asian and Pacific Islander Americans from our in-person collection and from our Dogwood Digital Collection of ebooks and audiobooks. Nonfiction and poetry on display at the Main Campus-- Other books by AAPI authors in our collections-- Dogwood Digital books can be downloaded and read through the Libby app, just like your local public library (though our holds list is likely much shorter).
Durham Tech has a lot of partners that help provide a wide range of services and access to information. One of those partners is UNC Chapel Hill’s North Carolina Digital Heritage Center ( http://www.digitalnc.org). The Center’s mission is support “community engagement and lifelong learning by promoting and increasing access to North Carolina’s cultural heritage.” This includes helping libraries like Durham Tech’s library digitize information, which increases access to the materials. Borrowing a line fr om broadcaster Edward R. Murrow, we at the Durham Tech library wish librarian Bill Frazier all the best as he signs off—as this semester ends, he will be closing the chapter on his time at Durham Tech. Bill has worked as evening reference librarian at the ERC main campus library in the fall and spring semesters for almost ten years now, and we will sorely miss his kindness and good humor, not to mention his attention to detail!
