February is African American History Month, a time to focus with intention on Black Americans and their history, highlighting contributions that have frequently been unspoken or underscored by others who dominated the historical narrative. This week we're focusing on Black artists and some of the resources available to you through the Durham Tech Library's collections to highlight Black history and accomplishments. It's Friday, y'all! We made it to the end of another week doing the social distance disco. This week is National Library Week, too. The theme for this year's National Library Week was originally "Find Your Place at the Library." However, it was chosen before COVID-19 forced everyone out of physical library spaces. At the end of the spring semester, the Library and the Durham Tech Fine Arts classes come together to host a student art display. We look forward to this event each year. In the 1960's and 1970's, many soul, funk, and R&B performers lived and worked in Durham, NC. More than 40 groups recorded singles and full-length albums in this time period. Ten recording labels were based in Durham during those decades.
