News: Durham Early College of Health Sciences celebrates opening with ribbon cutting
Durham Public Schools, Durham Tech, and Bloomberg Philanthropies joined Duke leaders on Wednesday in celebrating the ribbon-cutting of the new Durham Early College of Health Sciences (DECHS). Located in Research Triangle Park and made possible through a $29+ million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, the school is a collaborative effort to position Durham and the Triangle as a model for preparing the next generation of health care providers.
News: Durham Tech recognizes retired vice president Tom Jaynes at on-campus gallery unveiling, presents Long Leaf Pine Award
Retired executive vice president Danny Thomas “Tom” Jaynes was honored for his nearly 30 years of service to Durham Tech last month at an unveiling ceremony for the College’s new D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery. Jaynes, who retired in June 2021, was also presented the prestigious Long Leaf Pine Society Award for service to the state of North Carolina. 

Jaynes was a longtime leader at Durham Tech and focused his attention on areas of equity and inclusion, economic mobility for low-income and first-generational families, restructuring the College into Guided Career Pathways, and led the COVID-19 response for Durham Tech. 

In addition, Jaynes had a deep love for art, music, photography, theatre and has been active in creative expression for over three decades. He is also an actor, poet, musician, singer, Tiki scholar, and author.
News: Paralegal Technology Program ‘growing and evolving’ to benefit students
Precious Vines-Harris finds herself at home on the Durham Tech campus overseeing the College’s Paralegal Technology Program.

As director of the program, in which she also serves as an instructor, Vines-Harris said she has seen many changes since she joined Durham Tech seven years ago.
News: Former Durham Tech dean named president of Carteret Community College
Dr. Tracy Mancini, who previously served as the Dean of Arts, Sciences, and University Transfer at Durham Technical Community College, has been named the next president of Carteret Community College in Morehead City, North Carolina.
News: Enrollment to open in January for new Durham Early College of Health Sciences
The new Durham Early College of Health Sciences – a partnership of Durham Tech, Durham Public Schools and Duke Health – is actively recruiting its first class of students for when the school opens in fall 2025.

Enrollment for the new early college opens in January for current eighth-grade students in Durham County. The school will eventually serve students in grades nine through 12.

News: Durham Tech first community college to take part in Lenovo's Data Gateway initiative
During the spring semester, Syderia Alston, Durham Tech Accounting and Finance graduate and FBLA Collegiate president. and Durham Tech Director of Business and Administration, Dr. LaTonya Steelea worked together on a research project with Needle & Thread Co., a mobile business, as part of Lenovo’s Data Trade Gateway Initiative that is a collaboration with N.C. State and other institutions.

Durham Tech student Jeremiah Artacho has been named the Region 4 Governor Robert Scott Leadership winner. He was one of six Region winners selected. The state winner will be named March 22.
