News: Durham Tech Early Childhood program adds new fast-track option
Students will now be able to earn their early childhood education associate’s degree in less time through a new fast-track pathway at Durham Technical Community College.
While in the pilot program, students will also receive stipends thanks to a $17,500 grant from the PNC Foundation.
Clinical Research Essential Skills
Students applying to the Clinical Research program must demonstrate sufficient physical and emotional health to be considered fit to participate in academic education and laboratory experiences, and to practice clinically with clinical research professionals and the public in a safe and effective manner.

News: Around the world in 18 days, Japanese students turn to Durham Tech for English immersion experience
For the seventh consecutive year, Durham Technical Community College has partnered with Sister Cities of Durham to host students from the Sister City of Toyama, Japan – nearly 200 miles northwest of Tokyo – for an English immersion program, which is housed at the Durham Tech Small Business and Corporate Education Center.

Durham Tech graduate Kilie Fetzer has been named the 2025 ApprenticeshipNC Outstanding Registered Apprentice after finding her passion while working as a receptionist at a surgeon’s office, where she learned about surgical tech careers. 

“One of the amazing surgeons knew my frustrations of wanting to go back to school to further my education but having no idea what I wanted to do,” Fetzer said. “He offered to let me shadow him in the operating room to observe and see if anything sparked my interest. That’s when I learned what a surgical technologist is.”

Editor's note: The following is the transcript of Durham Tech alumna Luzita Francis' keynote address for the College's 2024 Commencement.

Thank you President Buxton for inviting me here today, and to you all, esteemed faculty, proud parents, maybe even proud children, supporters, all those who made this accomplishment possible. Most importantly, I want to thank the Durham Tech graduating Class of 2024. You’ve earned my congratulations, and my gratitude. As Kurt Vonnegut said in one of his many commencement speeches: “By becoming informed and reasonable and capable adults, you have made this a better world than it was before you got here.” I thank you for doing so and am honored and humbled to address you and celebrate with you today.
Associate in Science
The Associate in Science (AS) is a two-year degree for students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate degree. Emphasis is placed on courses such as biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, mathematics, or physics.
