Durham Tech sent its six-person high-altitude balloon team to compete in the statewide competition in March in Catawba. The 10 teams competing launched their high-altitude balloons (HABs) filled with a payload of one required experiment and three additional experiments. The balloons reach an altitude of 20 miles above Earth and must be strong enough to carry the payload and all the components of the experiments.

Middle College High School opened its doors on Durham Tech's Main Campus in Fall 2005. The new high school was a collaborative effort among Durham Public Schools, Chapel Hill/Carrboro City Schools and Orange County Schools. It was designed to allow students to work toward a high school diploma while earning academic credits toward an associate degree from Durham Tech, or to transfer to a four-year university.

Carolina Student Transfer Excellence Program (C-STEP or CSTEP) is a partnership between Durham Technical Community College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The goal of C-STEP is to identify high-achieving, low-to moderate-income students who would not otherwise attend a selective college or university.
The Associate in Fine Arts (AFA) is intended for students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate fine arts degree (BFA or BAFA) within four years. AFA curriculum courses focus on visual arts but the degree also includes general education offerings that emphasize the development of analytical skills, written and oral communication, and competencies in math and science.
