News: Sofia Avila receives Academic Excellence Award
Durham Tech student Sofia Avila has been selected as the 2024 Academic Excellence Award recipient for the College.
She was honored at the Executive Leadership Team meeting for the College on Friday, April 26.
Avila, a native of Honduras, attended a high school there before her family sought political asylum and came to the United States. Avila said her schooling got a little muddled at that point as the senior year in Honduras is 11th grade.
Public Safety Administration AAS
The Public Safety Administration Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree curriculum is designed to provide students, as well as practitioners, with knowledge and skills in the technical, managerial, and administrative areas necessary for entrance or advancement within various public safety and government organizations.

Tim Platz is no stranger to challenging work and does not shy away from having many things going on at one time. Even with major life curveballs, he stayed focused, worked hard, followed his heart and is now sowing seeds for a future in the church.

“I worked at Goodyear as a teenager, had a son when I was 17, moved into landscaping because I needed extra money to support my family, went through a divorce at age 20 and have always looked for every opportunity to grow career-wise as well as personally. Durham Tech is now part of that journey, and the College has set me on a path toward the life I want,” Platz said.
Frequently Asked Questions about the English Language Requirement
All students enrolling in a Health Technologies program must complete an English Language Requirement form to verify how the English language requirement has been met. Please see the form for complete information.
Manicuring (Continuing Education)
The 300-hour course teaches the art of caring for the hands and feet. After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Art's exam to be a licensed Manicurist.
Construction Trades (Continuing Education)
The Construction Trades program provides training for entry-level positions in varied trade areas and skill building for those currently employed.
Clinical Research - Core Competencies Certificate
Individuals who have completed a baccalaureate or graduate degree in biological science, chemistry, or an allied health area, or who have completed one year of employment in the clinical research field within the last five years, are eligible to enroll in the Clinical Research Core Competencies certificate program.
Medical Product Safety and Pharmacovigilance Certificate
The MSP certificate program is comprised of five courses. Students are eligible to enroll in the Medical Product Safety Certificate if they have completed a baccalaureate or
graduate degree in biological science, chemistry, or an allied health area, or have completed one year of employment in the clinical research field within the last five years.
Massage Therapy (Continuing Education)
The Massage Therapy program is designed to prepare students for both state and national massage therapy licensing exams through classwork and practical, hands-on training. Students will obtain a foundation for practice as an entry-level professional massage therapist.
