Durham Technical Community College will host its 34th annual event celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event on Jan. 18.
The event features activities throughout the day, beginning with the main event that morning.

Faculty can play a role in assisting students when they notice "things just aren't right." Whether it is poor classroom performance, absenteeism, or demands of life, these issues can affect how, and whether a student persists and achieves his or her goals.
Long before he was investigating crime scenes with his K9, Renzo, Justin Long was a young kid growing up on his family farm in Roxboro with herds of cattle, vegetable rows, and a bell that rang for dinner.
His family called it Bloomsdale – 120 acres of farmland where three generations lived. There were six houses on the farm, all built by Long family hands. His parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins all grew up within walking distance of each other.
Days off didn’t exist. There was always something that needed to be done, and that instilled a strong work ethic in Long.
“It was a big thing in our family. You work. You support yourself, you support your family, and you do what you can to support your community,’” he said.
That work ethic has served the 36-year-old well as the new Dean of Human Services and Public Safety at Durham Technical Community College.
Allied Health encompasses health care professions that identify, diagnose, and treat illnesses and diseases (does not include medicine or nursing). This includes technicians, medical coders, and administrative and other medical staff.
The construction industry is booming with the demand for qualified workers rising. The Construction Electrician certificate gives students an opportunity to break into that industry.
A 40-hour course that prepares student to become a community or medical interpreter. Instruction is in English.
