News: Statement from Durham Technical Community College President J.B. Buxton on the passing of former Trustee James I. Bolden
Recently, our community lost an important figure in Durham Tech’s history – and key contributor to improving opportunity and life outcomes for people across the region. On Feb. 20, 2025, former Durham Tech Board of Trustees member James I. Bolden passed away at the age of 100.

Edward Uh Mendez has been selected as the College’s nominee for the Dallas Herring Achievement Award and the recipient of the Tony Kleese and Christine Kelly-Kleese Resilience Award, which was recently increased to $2,000.

News: Durham Tech, Duke University Health System Partner to Create Nursing Talent Pipeline 
Duke University Health System, Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs and Durham Technical Community College are joining forces to address the national nursing labor shortage crisis impacting North Carolina.  The collaborative endeavor is aligned with Duke’s Strategic Community Impact Plan (SCIP) goal of supporting college and career-readiness through talent and workforce development, including partnering with public education and regional universities. 
News: Back-to-Work Program Highlight: Building and Skilled Trades
Skilled trades jobs are in high-demand, and Durham Tech offers short-term credentials to help students get to work fast. The Building and Skilled Trades program provides training for entry-level positions in building construction, ranging from cabinetry and plumbing to masonry and forklift training.
News: Durham Tech alumna travels world as cruise ship singer
Durham Tech graduate Domonique Foster discovered her singing voice when she was 8. She now shares her musical gift regularly to thousands as a singer for Norwegian Cruise Line.
News: Durham political fixture, civil rights activist will speak at Durham Tech for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event
N.C. Rep. Henry M. Michaux, Jr. will be the featured speaker at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. event hosted by Durham Technical Community College.
Michaux has served in the North Carolina House of Representatives for more than 40 years, making him the longest-serving member in the state’s House. He is set to retire after his current term.
News: Durham Tech student accepted into Women and Minority Engineering Research Program at NC State
Rodriguez, 28, was accepted into the Women and Minority Engineering Research Program at North Carolina State University.

The 10-week summer program requires students to work a minimum of 25 hours per week, and provides a high quality research experience along with mentoring support. The program begins May 24 and includes a $5,000 stipend.
News: Durham Tech student first from the College to attend Warrior-Scholar Project Academic Bootcamp
Brandon Armani, a veteran and Durham Tech student since 2024, was invited to attend the Chicago area Warrior-Scholar Project Academic Bootcamp where he had the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence and strategies needed to thrive in higher education. The bootcamp was held at the University of Chicago and lasted seven days.
