SEF-IAR1 Introduction to Audio Recording I

Intro to Audio Recording is designed to teach students the fundamentals of audio engineering, for both studio and live application, and how to identify the application of special effects to an audio production. Students will focus on learning about digital audio, microphone types, signal flow, audio cables, and terminology, as well as an introduction to ProTools, which is a comprehensive approach to learning the fundamentals of advanced audio recording. Understanding the use of effects units will prepare any audio professional with the experience needed to make the most critical decisions during the mixing process. This course will introduce students to live and studio sound by giving them hands-on experience on equipment in a recording studio. All students are expected to take this course first, unless waived by the instructor. This course will meet online on Mondays and at Playground Studios on Wednesdays. Online classes on Mondays will consist of an interactive lecture on the scheduled topic. One Wednesdays, students will enter the studio for hands-on demonstrations of the skills and techniques discussed. Students will receive an email with all information to log into the class prior to the first day of class. 40 hours (20 online and 20 studio) $650
