More Than a Job (MTAJ) Program

The More Than a Job (MTAJ) program helps eligible students gain the education, training, and career support needed to secure sustainable employment. This program is a partnership between Durham Tech, the Orange County Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS).

The program provides:

  • Career counseling and success coaching to help you identify, plan for, and achieve your education and career goals.
  • Job search support, including résumé development, networking strategies, interview preparation, and opportunities to connect with employers through job fairs.
  • Tuition assistance for eligible Durham Tech credential, certificate, diploma, or degree programs.
  • Additional support for Orange County participants, including supplemental funding for books, uniforms, supplies, and other eligible living expenses

How to Apply

To qualify for this program, you must be an Orange or Durham County Resident who is receiving SNAP benefits. To apply, you must:

  1. Contact your DSS case manager and ask for a referral to the MTAJ Employment and Training program, or

  2. Fill out a Referral Form to connect with a Durham Tech Education Navigator to assist with your referral.

Once you are connected to the MTAJ Employment and Training program, attend a one-on-one career coaching session with the Durham Tech Education Navigator who will help you get started on your new career! The Education Navigator will assist in guiding you in training activities, workforce development programs and classes that meet your skill level and goals.
