News: A final note from President Buxton for Black History Month 2025
On this last day of Black History Month this year, I wanted to share the full story of Durham Tech’s founding as a kind of postscript to the celebrations of Black history.
News: Seven Durham Tech Students to Attend NC State on Prestigious Goodnight Scholarships
Seven Durham Tech students will be attending NC State beginning this fall on Goodnight Scholarships, valued at $23,000 per year for up to three years for transfer students from low- and middle-income families in North Carolina who are studying in a STEM or STEM-education field.  
News: ‘Durham Tech has a special place in my heart’
Kathryn Oliva, a Honduras native and Durham Tech graduate, was 17 when she came to the United States. She started taking classes at Durham Tech within a year of her arrival.

“Durham Tech has a special place in my heart. From the beginning I had classmates from other countries. That was amazing to me,” Oliva said. “I got to know about other countries, even with never having visited them. I got to meet other non-English speaking students with good hearts that I never would have met if I hadn’t been at Durham Tech. Many of us still talk and go out. My Durham Tech time was such a good thing for me.”
Support Student Scholarships
Support scholarships for students may be funded through donations of $1,000 or more annually. Permanently endowed scholarships may be created at the $25,000+ level to support an award in perpetuity.

News: Durham County Commissioners approve budget to boost student scholarships, extend 911 Academy funding, and fund biotechnology student stipends
Durham Tech projects approved for 2022 bond referendum for new healthcare and life sciences buildings

The Durham County Board of Commissioners approved a 2022-23 fiscal year budget Monday night that provides scholarship support for Durham Tech students entering a robust labor market and reinforces the College’s plans to build strong life sciences career pathways to local industries.

The budget provides $9,743,434 for Durham Technical Community College, an increase of $789,268 allotted since last year’s budget cycle.

The budget also includes a three-year commitment to extended the College’s new 911 Academy, which trains needed emergency telecommunicators for the region’s 911 centers.

In a statement Monday night, Durham Tech President J.B. Buxton lauded the Board and County Manager Kimberly Sowell for their support and commitment to Durham Tech and education opportunities for the community.

"I want to thank the Durham County Commissioners and the County Manager and her staff for their work on the 2022–23 budget and the 2022 Bond Referendum. This is what public leadership looks like. The commissioners' investments provide needed scholarships and pathways to jobs for Durham residents, economic development support for this community, and a pipeline of diverse talent for the region's employers," Buxton said.
News: Fidelity Scholar: Program gives diverse types of support, helps him be well-rounded
Durham Tech student Juan-Pablo Quintanilla Ha began his interest in the Fidelity Scholars program during high school, when a guidance counselor shared information on the program.

“After learning about the Fidelity program from a high school counselor of mine, I researched the program and found I was a fit because of my Latino-Asian descent, but also because of my academic excellence and it helped that I am a go-getter,” said Ha, who was one of the Durham Tech students selected for the program. “I was then all about the program and how it could help me get a college education.”

Ha saw Fidelity’s program as a way to receive money for college, but quickly learned it was much more.
News: Mobile Health Lab receives accolades
The Durham Tech Community Health Lab recently was among organizations honored by Duke through two different awards.
In partnership with the Duke Outpatient Clinic, the Community Health Lab received the 2024 Interprofessional Education Team Excellence Award, which honors teams for extraordinary accomplishments and service in interprofessional education and care.
News: Little Free Libraries debut on three Durham Tech campuses, build community
In mid-June, Little Free Libraries opened their handcrafted doors to students, faculty, staff, and the community at large.
