News: Statement from President J.B. Buxton on Durham County 2022-23 approved budget, 2022 bond referendum resolutions
The Durham County Board of Commissioners passed the 2022-23 budget Monday night. The budget includes an increased scholarship opportunities for Durham Tech students, stipends for participants in the BULLS biotechnology initiative, and a three-year commitment for 911 Academy funding, among other operational expenses. In addition to the budget, the Board approved a bond referendum for this year for a new health sciences building, a life sciences training facility, and property acquisition funding.

News: Local nonprofit president, CEO joins Durham Tech Board of Trustees
Pilar Rocha-Goldberg, President and CEO of El Centro Hispano, has joined the Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees. Rocha-Goldberg was appointed by N.C. Gov. Roy Cooper to replace board member Rick Adams, whose term ended in June. She was officially sworn in on Oct. 8 and is the first Latinx member of the Durham Tech board.

To commemorate its 30-year anniversary milestone, Biogen and the Biogen Foundation announced Oct. 9 a pledge of $250,000 to Durham Technical Community College’s new Novo Nordisk Life Sciences Center.
News: Students, faculty travel to Dublin to explore Irish health care, country
Fourteen Durham Tech students and three faculty members crossed the pond last month for a study and travel abroad program to Dublin, Ireland. The group learned about the Irish health care system and visited a number of important cultural and sightseeing stops.
