Have You Heard about the Read Great Things Challenge? And our SPRINT?
Did you know that the Durham Tech Library sponsors an annual reading challenge? Click through to learn more about the Read Great Things 2021 Challenge AND to learn about our 2021 Reading Sprint (and what you can win for both). The Read Great Things Challenge started in 2018 and is a category-based reading challenge, meaning each year we have 12 different categories, consisting of one category that counts as a free space (like in BINGO) and our very favorite category--A book suggested by your
Happy Early Voting Day!
I mean, it's not a holiday or anything, but today is when North Carolina early voting sites open, including one on Durham Tech's Main Campus ( in the Newton building, room 4-141, accessed from the back parking lot--near the construction classrooms) for Durham County voters. Early voting begins Thursday, Oct. 15 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 31. I voted today at he Newton Building and it took me about an hour to vote-- while it wasn't ridiculously busy like some of the news from other states, the
What We're Reading: Ready Player Two
Wade Watts won. Game over. Except that it wasn't.... This time, it's more than a game to win control over a billionaire's virtual universe. This time, real lives are at stake. This book was read by Susan Baker, Main Campus Reference Librarian. Title: Ready Player Two Author: Ernest Cline Genre: Science Fiction, Pop Culture Homage Read Great Things 2021 Categories: A book about family; A book recommended by a Durham Tech Library staff member; Choose your own category [A sequel!] Why did you
Time-Loop Stories for a Snowy Groundhog Day
While North Carolina's official forecasting groundhog Sir Walter Wally may have retired in 2023, you can still get your Groundhog Day fix with the current Punxsutawney Phil's prediction. The verdict? He saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter. In honor of the other Groundhog Day*, we're sharing a few of our books that feature time loops. (*the movie, that is.) Check out these titles available through your Durham Tech Library collections, including the Main Campus, Orange County Campus
New Semester, New Goals (and pet pictures!)
After a year of working from home, we're (mostly) back on campus and ready for a great Fall 2021 semester. We all have goals for the new semester, but our work-from-home coworkers/roommates are excited to be setting new benchmarks for their success. Click through to read their goals cleverly used to promote some Library services (and see Library staff pet pictures-- I'm not trying to bury the lede too much here). Charlie and George Lewis are excited that their roommate, Orange County Campus
Get Creative this Fall with Library Crafternoons!
Did you know that the Main Campus and Orange County Campus Libraries host free monthly craft workshops for Durham Tech students and employees? Take a break, meet new friends, and make something cool! Check out our September, October, and November workshops on both campuses. All materials are provided thanks to Viva the Arts on Campus and a generous grant from the Eichholz Foundation. Next week for our SEPTEMBER Crafternoon , we’ll be keeping it quick and making glass magnets and buttons from
Library Reads for International Women's Day
March 8 is International Women's Day and was created to focus on the achievements of women across the globe and emphasize the continued need to push for gender parity. This year's theme is "Choose to Challenge," acknowledging that gender bias left unchallenged allows it to continue. To celebrate International Women's Day, check out some of the books that the Durham Tech Library has online and in our physical collection to celebrate women's voices, accomplishments, and experiences.
