Where Have All My Librarians Gone? Librarian contact info and library services while everyone is off-campus
The librarians are still here for you, though we're working remotely and with our new [unpaid] coworkers. Note: These coworkers are not very good at accurate typing, so will not be manning the chat. Well, what can we do (and what is a no-go for off-campus work conditions)? What we can do for faculty, staff, and students: Help you to find your textbooks online (for free until May 25 in most cases), either using the bookstore's Red Shelf or other online resources. Help you do research and find
New Library Staff: The Work-from-Home Edition
Lots of changes happening, including new [unpaid] staff members helping your current library staff as we work from home. Zak Isaacs, Mail Services (Bippley Campus). Perhaps should look into a position change as he is always trying to chase the mail delivery truck away. This has been noted in his PR&E as an area that needs improvement. Timon Callison, Vice President of Employee Management. A bit of a micromanager, honestly. Always checking to see if you're doing everything right and telling you
Indigenous People's Day
In 2017, the state of North Carolina proclaimed the second Monday in October as Indigenous People's Day. What is Indigenous People's Day? An alternative to Columbus Day, Indigenous People's Day is "a celebration ... to bring acknowledgment to the Native population" and remove the focus from Columbus, a man who caused harm to Native populations. Want to learn more about Indigenous people's history and culture? Here's a very small selection of the books available through the Durham Tech library
Durham Reads Together Events Scheduled for October
Congressman and civil rights advocate, John Lewis’ graphic novel March: Book One, has been selected for the 2014 Durham Community Reads program. March: Book One is the first installation of a trilogy, and spans John Lewis’ youth in rural Alabama, his life-changing meeting with Martin Luther King, Jr., the birth of the Nashville Student Movement, and their battle to tear down segregation through nonviolent lunch counter sit-ins, building to a stunning climax on the steps of City Hall. Students in
What We're Reading: Hillbilly Elegy

I am a member of a two-person book club and the other member suggested this book. What did you like about it? It was a quick read. J.D. Vance details his upbringing in the Rust Belt as the descendant of Appalachian migrants to Ohio. He details the culture and communities of Scots-Irish people in West Virginia and Middletown, Ohio. Vance grew up in a close-knit
What We're Reading Online for Black History Month
The Durham Tech Library is a member of the Dogwood Digital Library, a collection of online ebooks and audiobooks through the Overdrive/Libby app. Durham Tech faculty, staff, and students can check out books using their Durham Tech username and password, just like they can access databases off-campus. Ebooks and audiobooks check out for 21 days and can be read on your phone, tablet, or computer. Check out some of our staff recommendations that celebrate Black authors and experiences for Black
