News: Durham Tech celebrates partner Eli Lilly's Pinnacle Award
Eli Lilly, nominated by Durham Tech and Wake Tech, was named Business of the Year among large companies by the North Carolina Community College System and honored at a celebration on April 17, receiving the college system’s Pinnacle Award.

In their joint nomination, Durham Tech and Wake Tech highlighted Eli Lilly's vital partnership with both colleges to train a skilled biotechnology workforce.

Former Board of Trustees member Dr. Wanda J. Garrett, a longtime Durham resident and highly regarded community leader, received an Honorary Associate of Arts degree at the college’s Commencement on May 24, 2023, in recognition of her service to Durham Technical Community College and the community.

News: Durham Tech recognizes retired vice president Tom Jaynes at on-campus gallery unveiling, presents Long Leaf Pine Award
Retired executive vice president Danny Thomas “Tom” Jaynes was honored for his nearly 30 years of service to Durham Tech last month at an unveiling ceremony for the College’s new D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery. Jaynes, who retired in June 2021, was also presented the prestigious Long Leaf Pine Society Award for service to the state of North Carolina. 

Jaynes was a longtime leader at Durham Tech and focused his attention on areas of equity and inclusion, economic mobility for low-income and first-generational families, restructuring the College into Guided Career Pathways, and led the COVID-19 response for Durham Tech. 

In addition, Jaynes had a deep love for art, music, photography, theatre and has been active in creative expression for over three decades. He is also an actor, poet, musician, singer, Tiki scholar, and author.
News: 60 for 60: Thousands visited Durham Tech for Native American celebrations
In 1991, the Durham Technical Community College Foundation began hosting an annual Native American weekend long celebration that brought thousands of community and K-12 students to campus over a 13-year period.

The University Transfer department at Durham Tech wanted the celebrations to showcase Indigenous culture and Native American history. This eventually transitioned into a campus-wide initiative.

Durham Tech employees, community members, and Native American Tribe members volunteered as the planning committee.
Industrial Systems Technology - Facilities Maintenance Tech AAS
This six-semester Associate in Applied Science (AAS) curriculum is designed to prepare or upgrade individuals to safely service, maintain, repair, or install equipment. It covers such topics as DC/AC electricity, motors and controls, PLC, hydraulics, and plumbing. Students graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree.
