News: 60 for 60: Durham Tech was a pioneer in offering Microelectronics program
In the 1980s, electronics, microelectronics, robotics, and technology began to boom in Durham and the Research Triangle Park. 

Leadership at Durham Technical Institute wanted the College to provide the necessary training for those career fields.  

On May 18, 1983, the state board of community colleges approved funding for the development of a microelectronics technology program. This funding allowed Durham Tech to become one of the first two-year colleges in North Carolina to provide microelectronics training.   
News: Durham Tech Board of Trustees welcomes new chair, vice chair, appointees
Durham Tech Community College’s Board of Trustees welcomed new board Chair Dr. Pat Ashley and new Vice Chair Gracie Johnson-Lopez to their new roles Tuesday, Aug. 19. The board unanimously elected them in June and their terms began July 1 and will run through June 2026.

News: Durham Tech Foundation welcomes new board members
The Durham Tech Foundation has welcomed three distinguished community leaders to its Board of Directors who bring extensive professional experience and valuable community connections. Kelly Calabria, Emilee Collins, and Kenneth Gibbs have demonstrated their dedication to the local community through their leadership and advocacy roles and are committed to advancing Durham Tech’s mission.
News: Durham Tech and Wake Tech partner to launch RTP Bio, a biotechnology training and talent collaboration
Durham Technical Community College and Wake Technical Community College announced the launch of RTP Bio, a new workforce development collaboration that unites biotechnology, biomanufacturing, and biopharmaceutical talent pipelines of the two community colleges in the Research Triangle Park region.

Durham Tech and Wake Tech serve the fifth largest biotechnology hub in the United States, with Research Triangle Park located in both college’s service regions. The location and expansion of life science and biopharma industries have significantly accelerated employment demands. In 2020, more than 11,000 biotechnology jobs were created in the Research Triangle.

Current offerings at Wake Tech include degrees in Biopharmaceutical Technology and Biotechnology and continuing education through the BioWork credential. Durham Tech offers degrees in Clinical Trials Research, Biomedical Equipment Technology and continuing education through the BioWork credential. Durham Tech also plans to add new degrees in biotechnology-related programs in the coming year.

News: New Director of Students of Color Success aims to improve college capacity to support African American and Latinx students in new role
Dr. Keyma Clark has served as the new Director of Students of Color Success since February.

Dr. Keyma Clark, a former Durham Tech College Liaison and middle school teacher, is working to improve the experiences and outcomes of students of color at Durham Tech.

Durham Tech has been selected to serve on one of three university teams put together to help solve NASA’s 21st century aviation challenges.
