The Durham County Board of Commissioners passed the 2022-23 budget Monday night. The budget includes an increased scholarship opportunities for Durham Tech students, stipends for participants in the BULLS biotechnology initiative, and a three-year commitment for 911 Academy funding, among other operational expenses. In addition to the budget, the Board approved a bond referendum for this year for a new health sciences building, a life sciences training facility, and property acquisition funding.

Some students completing the bachelor’s degree in EMC go on to graduate or professional study to become physicians, physician assistants, professors, and researchers.
October is Cybersecurity Month, and it began at Durham Tech with a lunch-and-learn with Susan Cropp of the FBI on “Biosecurity from a Law Enforcement Perspective.”

Community Health Workers advise clients or community groups on issues related to improving general health, such as diet or exercise.
The Durham Tech Northern Durham Center (NDC) offers curriculum courses such as Basic Law Enforcement Training, Criminal Justice Technology, Emergency Management, and Fire Protection Technology. Continuing Education courses include Biotechnology, Fire Service Extension, and Law Enforcement Extension.
The Center for Workforce Engagement supports the development and promotion of curriculum programming, short-term and certification training that meet labor market demand and increase employment opportunities for our community.
