News: Durham Tech, Blue Cross NC Partner for New Insurance Licensing Program
Collaboration includes scholarships to promote a diverse program applicant pool

Durham Technical Community College and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) are announcing the launch of a five-year insurance career pathway partnership with scholarship opportunities for students.

The Durham Tech Insurance Licensing Program will start in February 2022, offering the pre-licensing education required by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) to become an insurance licensee. Program courses will include Life Insurance, Accident & Health/Sickness Insurance and Medicare Supplement/Long-Term Care/Estate Insurance. In addition to skill-building and training, the program will also provide students with direct connections to industry professionals and resources for a more seamless career entry.

“Durham Tech is pleased to partner in workforce training with Blue Cross NC. Together, we aim to train residents in our region and beyond for insurance careers, including those who have been historically underrepresented in the industry,” said Melissa Chappell, Durham Tech Foundation Executive Director.
News: Middle College High School student earns Associate in Engineering degree, High School Diploma
Durham Tech Middle College High School graduate Fallon Kichman-Heath has already completed two years of College after completing her Associate in Engineering while in high school.

Kichman-Heath is the first Middle College student to earn an Associate in Engineering, which began being offered at Durham Tech in 2016.

Born in China, Kichman-Heath was adopted at 13-months and relocated to Mebane, NC with her parents, and has been in North Carolina ever since. At just 17, Kichman-Heath now has her high school diploma and associate degree.

Kichman-Heath’s older brother introduced her to the Middle College program after he participated in the program.
Industrial Engineering Technologists and Technicians
Industrial Engineering Technologists and Technicians apply engineering theory and principles to solve problems with industrial layout or manufacturing production.
News: Community Health Lab making a difference in underserved communities 
Durham recently invited community partners and stakeholders to tour the Community Health Lab and learn more about its significant impact on the well-being of area residents. The lab’s mission is twofold. It serves members of underserved communities who face obstacles to receiving health care because of financial barriers or a lack of access. It also provides clinical training site for students, giving them hands-on experience delivering care to individuals from a variety of backgrounds and building the emotional intelligence skills to be empathetic practitioners.  
Welding Technology Certificate
The Welding Technology certificate curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metalworking industry.
Apprenticeship for Students
Student apprenticeships are available for current students, recent graduates, incumbant workers, experienced workers looking to shift their career focus to a different field, and military veterans transitioning to civilian life.

Nathaniel B. White Sr. blazed a trail at Durham Tech.
He was the College’s first African-American Board of Trustee member and a founding member of Durham Industrial Education Center. He was appointed by the Durham County Board of Commissioners and served 32 years as a trustee.
News: Exhibit honoring life of civil rights activist Floyd B. Mckissick Sr. on display at Durham Tech
A lifetime of service by one of Durham’s native sons, Floyd B. McKissick Sr., is being honored in an exhibit at Durham Technical Community College in the D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery on the College’s Main Campus on Lawson Street.

News: Two Durham Tech students recognized at statewide conference
Noelle Lyon and Michael Maldonado-Melgar received a combined three awards at the North Carolina Comprehensive Community College Student Government Association (N4CSGA) Spring Conference Awards Banquet on Saturday, April 7.
