What We're Reading: Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye and some Jane Eyre-Inspired Reads
Reader, I confess: I've never read Jane Eyre. I had a profoundly bad experience with another Brontë sister in high school that has biased me against the other Brontës. Fair? Nope, but sometimes reading isn't fair when there are lots of other choices out there. However, I did recently read Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye about a orphan-turned-governess (with some life experience in between) who keeps coming across the opportunity to murder folks. She picks up a copy of Jane Eyre and is compelled to
What We're Reading: And the Mountains Echoed
Title: And the Mountains Echoed Author: Khaled Hosseini Genre: fiction What did you like about it? Through various characters from 1952 until the current decade, it provides different views of Afghanistan. Some characters are born there and leave; some are not from there, but end up there; and others spend their entire lives there. The book portrays Afghanistan as a place of poverty in relation to the West, of hardship and suffering; and that is even before the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan

What did you like

Happy Early Voting Day!
I mean, it's not a holiday or anything, but today is when North Carolina early voting sites open, including one on Durham Tech's Main Campus ( in the Newton building, room 4-141, accessed from the back parking lot--near the construction classrooms) for Durham County voters. Early voting begins Thursday, Oct. 15 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 31. I voted today at he Newton Building and it took me about an hour to vote-- while it wasn't ridiculously busy like some of the news from other states, the
Small Steps to Improve Heart Health for Heart Month (February)
We may be reaching the end of February and American Heart Month, but we can pump out a month-end blog post. (That pun was weak. I know. Let's not talk about it, okay?) This year's theme is "Live to the Beat," which aims to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in Black adults ages 35 to 54 by taking small steps to address key risk factors such as hypertension, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar. Some tips? Get moving! Just 10 minutes a day to get started can have a positive impact!
It's Earth Day!

All in. Businesses, governments, and citizens — everyone accounted for, and everyone accountable. A partnership for the planet." Durham Tech is incorporating green goals within its 2021-2026 Strategic Plan – Pathways to Institutional Excellence by prioritizing the creation of green and sustainable campuses
