News: Statement from President J.B. Buxton on the passing of Durham Tech Board Chair John Burness
John Burness, Chair of the Durham Technical Community College Board of Trustees, died on Monday, December 19, at the age of 77.

President J.B. Buxton issued the following statement: 

“John Burness was a big personality with big ambitions for Durham Tech. He believed deeply in the College’s ability to make a difference for the residents of Durham and Orange counties. His leadership at both Duke University and Durham Tech reflected his commitment to leveraging the power of institutions to improve people’s lives and create a more beloved community.
News: Durham Tech partners with Corning to offer paid internships, tuition assistance, full-time employment through Technician Pipeline Program
Durham Tech and Corning Incorporated have partnered to offer eligible students an opportunity to participate in their Technician Pipeline Program (TPP) – a two-year paid internship that offers tuition assistance and job placement at Corning upon completion.

Corning is a worldwide leading innovator in materials science and operates a life sciences and pharmaceutical technologies location in Durham. The TPP program was introduced in 2008 to optimize partnership opportunities between scientists and technicians in Corning’s Technology Community and increase the number of under-represented minorities and women in technician roles by establishing a comprehensive, fully customized talent pipeline.
News: President Buxton Statement on Retirement of U.S. Rep. David Price
Having a U.S. Congress without Rep. David Price feels like UNC basketball without Dean Smith or Duke basketball without Coach K: you know the institution will survive, but at first it’s tough to see how. On behalf of Durham Tech, I want to add our voice to the chorus of thanks for his three decades of service to our region and the country.
News: 60 for 60: Durham Tech was a pioneer in offering Microelectronics program
In the 1980s, electronics, microelectronics, robotics, and technology began to boom in Durham and the Research Triangle Park. 

Leadership at Durham Technical Institute wanted the College to provide the necessary training for those career fields.  

On May 18, 1983, the state board of community colleges approved funding for the development of a microelectronics technology program. This funding allowed Durham Tech to become one of the first two-year colleges in North Carolina to provide microelectronics training.

News: Commencement keynote speaker: Believe in yourself, believe in your path
Editor's note: The following is the transcript of Durham Tech alumna Luzita Francis' keynote address for the College's 2024 Commencement.

Thank you President Buxton for inviting me here today, and to you all, esteemed faculty, proud parents, maybe even proud children, supporters, all those who made this accomplishment possible. Most importantly, I want to thank the Durham Tech graduating Class of 2024. You’ve earned my congratulations, and my gratitude. As Kurt Vonnegut said in one of his many commencement speeches: “By becoming informed and reasonable and capable adults, you have made this a better world than it was before you got here.” I thank you for doing so and am honored and humbled to address you and celebrate with you today.
Music Recording and Audio Engineering (Continuing Education)
Durham Tech has partnered with Playground Studios to offer a series of courses to train students in music recording and audio engineering. Students will learn how to function in today’s professional audio production environment recording studios, venues, post production houses and/or film houses.
