Hundreds of families, friends, Durham Tech employees, and alumni walked into the Durham Bulls Athletic Park (DBAP) Wednesday evening and filled the seats to attend Durham Tech’s 60th commencement to celebrate the graduating class of 2022.

Leading global healthcare company Novo Nordisk held an apprenticeship signing for two Durham Tech students who are joining the company for a year. The apprenticeship program is part of the partnership the College, Novo Nordisk and ApprenticeshipNC launched in January 2023 to support and grow the talent pipeline in life sciences fields.

In Fall 2024 the College will begin offering two-thirds of its courses in eight-week formats instead of a 16-week semester. Eight-week courses are offered in two consecutive terms during the Fall and Spring semesters. In-person, online, hybrid, and blended formats will be available.

What started as an opportunity to serve the growing Latinx population in North Carolina, now serves students from countries all over the world that come to Durham Tech to pursue their academic and professional goals.
“Before the Center for the Global Learner existed, several college employees worked on international issues and initiatives, but collaboration occurred in social contexts rather than as a deliberate strategy. The creation of the CGL gave these employees a much stronger opportunity for daily direct communication and stronger collaboration,” said Karin Abell, Director of English as a Second Language at Durham Tech.

Former Board of Trustees member Dr. Wanda J. Garrett, a longtime Durham resident and highly regarded community leader, received an Honorary Associate of Arts degree at the college’s Commencement on May 24, 2023, in recognition of her service to Durham Technical Community College and the community.

Duke University Health System, Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs and Durham Technical Community College are joining forces to address the national nursing labor shortage crisis impacting North Carolina.
