News: College announces Do Great in Eight initiative
Durham Tech is launching its Do Great in Eight initiative, which is designed to improve students’ success.

In Fall 2024 the College will begin offering two-thirds of its courses in eight-week formats instead of a 16-week semester. Eight-week courses are offered in two consecutive terms during the Fall and Spring semesters. In-person, online, hybrid, and blended formats will be available.
News: Durham Tech selected for national effort to transform student support in higher education with digital tools
Achieving the Dream, a national network that works with community colleges, today announced it is launching a national effort beginning with five higher education institutions to improve how schools use technology to support students.
Durham Tech was among the colleges selected.
News: 60 for 60: Innovative free telephone-taped instruction served nearly half a million calls in 1980s
In January 1980, Durham Technical Institute introduced an innovative way to reach more people in the community. The College launched telephone-tape services that provided free instruction and information to local residents. 
News: Durham Tech helps students ‘build futures’ through community-wide initiative
Eight Durham homes now have been shaped up due to the efforts of the pilot class of the Building Futures Program.
The 14-week program launched in September and is made possible because of the Transformation in Ten Initiative, which includes Durham Tech, the City of Durham Neighborhood Improvement Services Department, Rebuilding Together of the Triangle, StepUp Durham, and NCWorks NextGen.
News: Community leader Wanda Garrett receives Honorary Associate of Arts degree from Durham Tech  
Former Board of Trustees member Dr. Wanda J. Garrett, a longtime Durham resident and highly regarded community leader, received an Honorary Associate of Arts degree at the college’s Commencement on May 24, 2023, in recognition of her service to Durham Technical Community College and the community. 
News: Sowing Seeds: Durham Tech student learns from ‘grounded and positive’ culture at Durham Tech
Tim Platz is no stranger to challenging work and does not shy away from having many things going on at one time. Even with major life curveballs, he stayed focused, worked hard, followed his heart and is now sowing seeds for a future in the church.

“I worked at Goodyear as a teenager, had a son when I was 17, moved into landscaping because I needed extra money to support my family, went through a divorce at age 20 and have always looked for every opportunity to grow career-wise as well as personally. Durham Tech is now part of that journey, and the College has set me on a path toward the life I want,” Platz said.
News: Durham Tech, Duke University Health System Partner to Create Nursing Talent Pipeline 
Duke University Health System, Duke Office of Durham and Community Affairs and Durham Technical Community College are joining forces to address the national nursing labor shortage crisis impacting North Carolina.  The collaborative endeavor is aligned with Duke’s Strategic Community Impact Plan (SCIP) goal of supporting college and career-readiness through talent and workforce development, including partnering with public education and regional universities.

In 1993, Christine Kelly-Kleese walked onto Durham Tech’s campus to interview for her dream job of establishing a learning center at the College.
News: Emerge Youth Conference: Premier STEAM event for middle school students
Durham Tech recently took part for the first time in the EMERGE Youth Conference, a premier STEAM event designed to accelerate and empower emerging middle school students in the greater Raleigh-Durham area.
