News: Durham Tech’s Orange County Campus hosts Women Owning the Workforce: A skilled trades conference for high school girls
For Women’s History Month, Durham Tech’s Orange County Campus hosted Women Owning the Workforce (WOW), a hands-on conference for high school girls to give insight into traditionally male-dominated careers in fields including welding, landscaping, architecture, electrical, firefighting, wood turning, automotive, general carpentry and owning your own contracting business.  
News: Paralegal Technology Program ‘growing and evolving’ to benefit students
Precious Vines-Harris finds herself at home on the Durham Tech campus overseeing the College’s Paralegal Technology Program.

As director of the program, in which she also serves as an instructor, Vines-Harris said she has seen many changes since she joined Durham Tech seven years ago.
News: SunTrust Foundation grants Durham Tech $100,000 to honor legacy of Phail Wynn
SunTrust Foundation has granted $100,000 to the Durham Tech Foundation to establish the Phail Wynn SunTrust Foundation Scholarship.
Dr. Phail Wynn, Jr. served as president of Durham Tech for 27 years, making him the first African-American community college president in North Carolina. He was also a remarkable leader and mentor who was passionate about community. Wynn died of natural causes in July.

As part of Durham Tech’s dual enrollment program, Kayla Graves has worked hard on high school and college courses concurrently, and now that focus on education is paying off.
Animal Science
Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate science degree at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Science (AS) degree. Curriculum courses focus on courses such as biology, chemistry, engineering, geology, mathematics, or physics.

Opticians
Dispensing Opticians design, measure, and adapt lenses and frames for clients and teach clients how to use and care for contact lenses.

Elyse Yooley remembers what it felt like to wear her first pair of glasses.
“It was like, ‘Whoa, there are actually leaves on those trees,’” she said.
This fall, Yooley will enter her second year of the Opticianry Associate Degree program at Durham Technical Community College.
As a second-year opticianry student, Yooley will join her classmates in participating in Project SIGHT. Project SIGHT is a partnership Durham Tech has with the East Durham Children’s Initiative, or EDCI, and Durham Public Schools to provide children of low-income backgrounds with free eyeglasses.
