Durham Tech sent its six-person high-altitude balloon team to compete in the statewide competition in March in Catawba. The 10 teams competing launched their high-altitude balloons (HABs) filled with a payload of one required experiment and three additional experiments. The balloons reach an altitude of 20 miles above Earth and must be strong enough to carry the payload and all the components of the experiments.

The Durham Tech Marketing and Communications Department took the top prize for Quick-Turn Video in the 2021 National Council for Marketing and Public Relations Paragon Awards. The competition honors excellence exclusively among marketing and public relations professionals at two-year colleges in North America.

Judges noted the planning, thoughtfulness, and sound integration that created a great video experience even with the immediate deadline.

When the Durham Technical Community College Foundation was established in 1984, its first priority was to raise funds to support students. In those early years, this effort was focused on securing sources of funding for scholarships. In 1991, the Foundation began hosting what has become a signature event: the Annual Scholarship Breakfast.
