News: Durham Tech, Blue Cross NC Partner for New Insurance Licensing Program
Collaboration includes scholarships to promote a diverse program applicant pool

Durham Technical Community College and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (Blue Cross NC) are announcing the launch of a five-year insurance career pathway partnership with scholarship opportunities for students.

The Durham Tech Insurance Licensing Program will start in February 2022, offering the pre-licensing education required by the North Carolina Department of Insurance (NCDOI) to become an insurance licensee. Program courses will include Life Insurance, Accident & Health/Sickness Insurance and Medicare Supplement/Long-Term Care/Estate Insurance. In addition to skill-building and training, the program will also provide students with direct connections to industry professionals and resources for a more seamless career entry.

“Durham Tech is pleased to partner in workforce training with Blue Cross NC. Together, we aim to train residents in our region and beyond for insurance careers, including those who have been historically underrepresented in the industry,” said Melissa Chappell, Durham Tech Foundation Executive Director.
Exercise and Sports Science
Students who wish to pursue a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sports Science should complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree which will transfer to all UNC System schools, most North Carolina independent colleges and universities, and most out of state institutions.
News: Convocation kicks off academic year on upbeat note
In August at Convocation 2024, Durham Tech celebrated the start of the academic year, welcomed new staff and reunited established colleagues.

The biggest highlights of the event were remarks delivered by three people who attended Durham Tech about the impact the College had on their lives.
News: U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh highlights apprenticeships at Durham Tech
U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh joined Vice President Kamala Harris visit to Durham Technical Community College on Wednesday and highlighted the work of the College and the plans of the Biden Administration to grow and diversify registered apprenticeships. 

“Community colleges like Durham Tech are essential to this work. They are the engine of equity and higher education. And they are the key to growing our middle class like creating pathways from school to career for American students and American workers,” Walsh said. 
News: Durham Tech first Life Sciences Networking event with employers, students a success
In early December, scores of students, alumni and life sciences employers converged on Durham Tech’s Main Campus for the College’s first Life Sciences Networking event for students and interested members of the community. The event gave people interested in pursuing a career in life sciences the opportunity to meet company representatives, get advice and learn more about the variety of careers available in the field.

News: Cybersecurity: Growing a premier degree program at Durham Tech
October is Cybersecurity Month, and it began at Durham Tech with a lunch-and-learn with Susan Cropp of the FBI on “Biosecurity from a Law Enforcement Perspective.” 

“Of course we bring in top-notch presenters,” said Scott Neal, Cybersecurity, Net and Support Program instructor.  “Durham Tech aspires to be the best community -- dare I say best college in teaching IT. We are building a culture right now. We are growing a premier associate degree program. We employ instructors who are specialists in their fields, and we are completely online, so our program is accessible to anyone.”

News: Year after Novo Nordisk’s $6 million gift to Durham Tech, partnership continues to grow
In January 2023, leading global healthcare company Novo Nordisk donated $6 million to Durham Tech, the largest corporate gift in the College’s history. In the year since the landmark gift, the partnership between Novo Nordisk and the College is already delivering results and creating a clear pathway for students interested in entering the biotechnology field.
