Durham Tech and Corning Incorporated have partnered to offer eligible students an opportunity to participate in their Technician Pipeline Program (TPP) – a two-year paid internship that offers tuition assistance and job placement at Corning upon completion.

The TPP program was introduced in 2008 to optimize partnership opportunities between scientists and technicians in Corning’s Technology Community and increase the number of under-represented minorities and women in technician roles by establishing a comprehensive, fully customized talent pipeline.

Dispensing Opticians design, measure, and adapt lenses and frames for clients and teach clients how to use and care for contact lenses.
Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate of arts degree at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree. Students in this program develop foundational knowledge particularly in business, English, fine arts, foreign languages, history, philosophy, psychology, or sociology.
Food Service Managers monitor food preparation methods, portion sizes, and garnishing and presentation of food to ensure that food is prepared and presented in an acceptable manner.

In September 2022, the Newton Makerspace was unveiled on Main Campus -- made possible by a contribution from Newton Instrument Company. The need for the high-tech makerspace was identified in 2018 when college leadership recognized the increase in industrial trades and the need to attract more students into this growing field. Durham Tech graduate Kilie Fetzer has been named the 2025 ApprenticeshipNC Outstanding Registered Apprentice after finding her passion while working as a receptionist at a surgeon’s office, where she learned about surgical tech careers.
“One of the amazing surgeons knew my frustrations of wanting to go back to school to further my education but having no idea what I wanted to do,” Fetzer said. “He offered to let me shadow him in the operating room to observe and see if anything sparked my interest. That’s when I learned what a surgical technologist is.”
