Former Board of Trustees member Dr. Wanda J. Garrett, a longtime Durham resident and highly regarded community leader, received an Honorary Associate of Arts degree at the college’s Commencement on May 24, 2023, in recognition of her service to Durham Technical Community College and the community.

Durham Tech’s Early Childhood Education program recently honored students participating in apprenticeships at a signing ceremony, where 16 apprenticeships were signed. Speakers included Durham Tech instructors as well as students of the program. The ceremony started with a quote about how the love of children is placed first in the program’s plan.

Marcia Angle and Mark Trustin have donated a sizeable sum to the Durham Technical Community College Foundation, including $50,000 to support Durham Public School students enrolled in courses at Durham Tech. The $50,000 will purchase textbooks for students beginning in the 2023-2024 school year who are part of the recently announced DPS-Durham Tech Partnership.

Durham Technical Community College partnered with UNC Health this summer to launch a central sterile processing course that included lectures, clinical rotations, and resulted in guaranteed full-time employment for graduates.

Students who ultimately wish to complete a baccalaureate of arts degree in Middle Grades Education: Language Arts at a four-year college or university would complete the Associate in Arts (AA) degree.
On Jan. 12, the Durham Tech Choir, under the direction of Dr. Norman Collins, brought the house down at Durham Tech’s 39th annual MLK celebration. The performances were so powerful, some audience members were in tears. With Collins conducting the faculty members comprising the choir delivered a memorable musical experience.
This international honor society recognizes academic achievement among two-year college students, providing opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service, and fellowship programming.
