Middle Grades Education: Language Arts

University Transfer Options

Students have two paths to a bachelor's degree in Middle Grades Education: Language Arts. The Associate in Arts (AA) and Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) degrees provide a foundation for students interested in teaching language arts and social studies.

Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation

The Associate in Arts in Teacher Preparation (AATP) is approved for transfer to some UNC System universities and independent colleges and universities that are signatories to the NCICU Associate in Arts and Associate in Science for Teacher Preparation Uniform Articulation Agreement. The degree consists of 60 semester hours of credit (SHC) of college transfer courses. Students in this program develop a broad liberal arts foundation in writing, math, science, humanities, and social sciences.  They also complete field-specific training through a set of foundational education courses.

The Associate in Arts (AA)

The Associate in Arts (AA) degree will transfer to all UNC System schools, most North Carolina independent colleges and universities, and most out of state institutions. Students in the AA program develop foundational knowledge particularly business, English, fine arts, foreign languages, history, philosophy, psychology, or sociology.

Course Selection Guide

This course selection guide shown below has been developed by referencing the Baccalaureate Degree plans or the student plans for the Bachelor of Arts degrees at the universities listed below.

Students should print out and save the baccalaureate degree plan (BDP) for their major and intended transfer university.
