Getting Crafty this Spring: Upcoming Crafternoons!

Submitted by Durham Tech Library on

Despite the weirdness of the first two weeks of the semester with weather and unexpected power/data outages, we've made it to week three.

Congrats!

Why not reward yourself with a little midweek Crafternoon once a month?

Spring 2024 Crafternoons: Wool Felting, Laser Cut 3D Puzzles, Printmaking, and Acrylic Paint Pouring

This semester, we'll be learning a few new crafts and leveraging the talents, skills, and resources of our on-campus partners. As usual, all supplies will be provided for Durham Tech students, faculty, and staff.

One new thing this semester: We love that we've had so many folks coming to the Main Campus events, but some of these require a little more hands on support, so we're requesting folks sign-up to reserve a spot the week prior to the event. Seating will be available as space and assistance allows.

First up, we'll return to an old favorite: wool felting led by Academic Advisor and artist, Eliza Murphy.

Get stabby and make a little creature of your very own. Penguins encouraged, but not required.

Join us on Tuesday, January 30 in the Orange County Campus Lobby from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

SIGN UP for Wednesday, January 31 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Main Campus Library Downstairs Study Area (5-105A).

In February, we'll be teaming up with the Durham Tech's Newton Makerspace to cut out 3-D wood puzzles, which will be available for folks to put together and decorate. Puzzles and paints will be provided.

Join us on Tuesday, February 27 in the Orange County Campus Lobby from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.

SIGN UP (link will be active a week prior to the event) for the Wednesday, February 28 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Durham Tech Makerspace (Newton, 4-115 &120).

printmakingIn March, we'll experiment with printmaking, so make an imprint on your calendars for Tuesday, March 26 in the Orange County Campus Lobby from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Wednesday, March 27 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM in the Main Campus Library Downstairs Study Area (5-105A).

We'll be printing on both fabric and paper.

Acrylic pouring on a canvasAnd in April, we're bringing back a favorite from last year: acrylic pouring!

Put on your painting pants (although we'll have smocks if you're nervous) and get ready to make lovely works of art using acrylic paint and pouring medium on Tuesday, April 16 in the Orange County Campus Lobby from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and Wednesday, April 17 from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Main Campus Library.

As always, you can find Crafternoons on the College's Events Calendar. Just search Crafternoon in the Keyword box to see all events for the semester.

Crafternoons are co-sponsored by the Durham Tech Library and a generous grant from the Eichholz Foundation.
