How to Research Newspapers & Magazines at Durham Tech Library

Students and staff at Durham Tech have digital access to databases that offer full-text articles from publications such as New York Times, Washington Post, New York Magazine, Time, Wired, Wall Street Journal, and more.

Users must access the articles through our databases, so they might appear different than how articles appear online through those organizations’ websites. For example, photos or screenshots published in articles may not be visible when they appear in our databases, but the written content should be the same.

We offer several ways to access articles from these places:

New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post are linked on our Articles, Journals, and Databases page. You can use the filters on that page to narrow down our resources to Newspapers and see some of the other databases that offer newspaper articles.
It’s also possible to find these publications in individual databases, such as the U.S. Newsstream Collection, whereas magazines can be found in Masterfile Premier.
On our Articles, Journals, and Databases page, on the right-hand side, a box named helpful links offers access to some of our most highly-requested publications
Our library FAQ page offers a small box on the side that has a drop-down menu of written publications that open when you select one:

If you know the title of a specific article, you can also search for it in Search Library.

Before you submit a search, you can click on the arrow on the left of the search box and select Newspaper & Magazine Articles so that your results are only from those types of resources.

Searching for an article by title may get you multiple results across our different databases, but the text content should be the same. If off-campus, you’ll be asked to login with your Durham Tech information when you click on the Full Text Online results.

Now you’re equipped to use Durham Tech Library’s collection of newspaper and magazines in your research and work! You can even read where Durham Technical Community College was highlighted by the New York Times in early August.
