English Language Requirement for Health and Wellness Programs
All health care workers (native and non-native US English speakers alike) are expected to use clear communication skills in the workplace. Students whose native language is not US English are expected to demonstrate "near-native" US English language abilities. There are three options to choose from to confirm this ability.
Medical Assisting AAS
Our Medical Assisting Associate (AAS) degree program equips future healthcare professionals with skills to excel in administrative, clinical, & lab duties.
Medical Assisting Diploma
Students can earn their Medical Assisting diplomas in four semesters. Coursework covers medical terminology, medical law and ethics, and admin office procedures.
Biochemists and Biophysicists
Biochemist study physical principles of living cells or organisms and their electrical or mechanical energy, applying methods and knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, or biology.
Respiratory Therapy AAS

Placement Testing
The Durham Tech Testing Center offers a variety of student assessment services and is located in the Phail Wynn, Jr. Student Services Center (Building 10), room 10-300, including New Students Placement Testing.
English for Academic Purposes
English for Academic Purposes (EAP) is a program designed to help students improve their skills in U.S. Academic English. Students entering this program already have the basics of English (or speak another variety of English), but need to improve their skills as it relates to college-level reading, writing, research, grammar, listening, and speaking.
