Work-Based Learning
Durham Tech students have opportunities inside and outside the classroom to grow professionally and engage in hands-on learning experiences. Work-Based Learning (WBL) at Durham Tech pairs students with an employer in their area of study for a work experience designed to prepare them for a successful career.

Violence Against Women Act (VAWA)
The Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is a broad-based law formulated in 1994 in response to the increasing violence against women in America. The Act has provisions starting from funding of domestic-violence programs to new civil rights remedies for women who were victims of gender-based attacks.

Durham Tech Community College announced Wednesday, Oct. 2, that it is moving forward with plans to provide affordable housing for its students and the greater community after securing a key piece of funding from the federal government with the assistance of U.S Rep. Valerie Foushee.

Dr. Micara Lewis-Sessoms has led efforts in Work-Based Education at Durham Tech since 2007.

The idea behind Work-Based Education was to connect students with employers while enrolled at the College so they could gain invaluable work experience before graduating and ensure their chosen career path was a good fit for them.

“I want to have the impact of a connector of students to employers. That connection can change the trajectory of their whole lives. It can change their legacy,” she said. “I always tell students, ‘you’re about to embark on a 160-hour interview.’”
High School Equivalency Diploma
The High School Equivalency diploma is the certified equivalent of a traditional high school diploma. Students may take courses to prepare for the tests in a traditional classroom setting or online. In some settings, The equivalency test is free for Durham and Orange county residents.
High School Equivalency Online
Complete the high school equivalency online. You can reach your goals on your own schedule. Interested students must attend a pre-online study orientation.
Online Learning
Online courses provide a flexible option for busy, motivated students to learn without traveling to campus. Hybrid courses combine distance learning with weekly on-campus meetings, giving you an online experience with a face-to-face personal touch (and fewer trips to campus).
