News: Durham Tech celebrates 10th Electric Line Technician graduating class
More than 50 people gathered at the Durham Technical Community College Northern Durham Center Friday to celebrate the 10th Electric Line Technician graduating cohort.

The Electric Line program started in Spring 2019 out of a partnership with Duke Energy that funded students to participate in the program at no cost, and which covers registration, tuition, fees, and equipment.

The most recent cohort started class on March 28 and the program lasted for 10 weeks. Students learned to climb poles, install equipment, safety codes and applications, overhead and underground electric line construction practices and more. Students also received their CDL permit by taking an online Saturday class for five weeks prior to the Electric Line class beginning.

News: 60 for 60: Durham Tech was a pioneer in offering Microelectronics program
In the 1980s, electronics, microelectronics, robotics, and technology began to boom in Durham and the Research Triangle Park.

Leadership at Durham Technical Institute wanted the College to provide the necessary training for those career fields.

On May 18, 1983, the state board of community colleges approved funding for the development of a microelectronics technology program. This funding allowed Durham Tech to become one of the first two-year colleges in North Carolina to provide microelectronics training.
News: 60 for 60: Center for the Global Learner fosters intercultural understanding
What started as an opportunity to serve the growing Latinx population in North Carolina, now serves students from countries all over the world that come to Durham Tech to pursue their academic and professional goals.

“Before the Center for the Global Learner existed, several college employees worked on international issues and initiatives, but collaboration occurred in social contexts rather than as a deliberate strategy. The creation of the CGL gave these employees a much stronger opportunity for daily direct communication and stronger collaboration,” said Karin Abell, Director of English as a Second Language at Durham Tech.

The Center for the Global Learner was established in Fall 2009 to support Durham Tech’s vision of fostering intercultural understanding and the development of engaged global citizens.

Time-Loop Stories for a Snowy Groundhog Day
While North Carolina's official forecasting groundhog Sir Walter Wally may have retired in 2023, you can still get your Groundhog Day fix with the current Punxsutawney Phil's prediction. The verdict? He saw his shadow, meaning six more weeks of winter. In honor of the other Groundhog Day*, we're sharing a few of our books that feature time loops. (*the movie, that is.) We want to make sure you have all the details that you need. Sometimes you just need to keep it short[er] and sweet, though. With that in mind, here's a top 15 list of essential library links for your first few weeks of school and beyond-- Need a laptop? What We're Reading: Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye and some Jane Eyre-Inspired Reads
Reader, I confess: I've never read Jane Eyre. I had a profoundly bad experience with another Brontë sister in high school that has biased me against the other Brontës. Fair? Nope, but sometimes reading isn't fair when there are lots of other choices out there. However, I did recently read Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye about a orphan-turned-governess (with some life experience in between) who keeps coming across the opportunity to murder folks. She picks up a copy of Jane Eyre and is compelled to
