Beginning fall 2020, the College engaged in the development of its 2021 – 2026 strategic plan.
The Mindful Haven (Mindfulness) Club aims to promote mental well-being, stress relief, and emotional awareness through the regular practice of meditation, mindfulness, and related activities. The club provides a supportive space where members can explore inner peace, self-awareness, and community connection.
Receiving an honorary degree from Durham Tech at its 2025 graduation ceremony meant a great deal to Steve Schewel.
“It is an incredible honor. To be at graduation with the graduates walking the stage with their degrees was invigorating, seeing them heading out into the world with diplomas and high expectations,” Schewel said.

Durham Tech now part of national network of community colleges working to align programs with good jobs and bachelor degree pathways, addressing local talent needs and changing student lives.
Duke’s +Programs are signature, immersive, experiential learning opportunities that engage students in projects across a wide variety of disciplines. This summer Duke offered nine different +Programs in math, history, documentary studies, data, computer science, coding, climate, arts, and applied ethics. For the first time in +Programs history, Duke partnered with Durham Technical Community College to bring students from both schools together.
