News: Perry Endowment gives students opportunity to learn about lemurs
Readers may recall a previous feature about Cynthia Perry Garland, who established an endowment through a planned gift to support enrichment experiences for students in the Gateway to College and Adult High School/High School Equivalency programs.
Garland, a 1994 alumna of Durham Tech, credits the examples of her parents and brother as her inspiration to give back. When she was 5 years old, Garland watched as her mother went back to get her high school diploma. Garland’s father drove his wife to and from school every day and ensured Garland and her brother, Andrew, had their needs met. A champion of lifelong learning, Garland named the endowment The Perry Family Memorial Endowment for Student Enrichment.

Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, and having grown up in Henderson, former Durham Tech student Amanda Blanchard knew art was what she wanted to do from age 6.

Now she is sharing her talents in her first solo show.

"In January of this year, the student running the Brown Gallery [in the Bryan Center] at Duke University contacted me about doing a solo exhibit during October,” she said. “It would be my first show ever. I haven’t even had a group showing and now it’s just me in a monthlong exhibit.”

Claire Smith attended Durham Tech from January 2023 until May 2024. Her time at the College is one she remembers fondly and one that ended with her earning an associate degree in the arts.
News: Durham Tech student first from the College to attend Warrior-Scholar Project Academic Bootcamp
Brandon Armani, a veteran and Durham Tech student since 2024, was invited to attend the Chicago area Warrior-Scholar Project Academic Bootcamp where he had the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence and strategies needed to thrive in higher education. The bootcamp was held at the University of Chicago and lasted seven days.
Administrative Departments
Durham Tech administrative departments provide assistance for Campus Police and Public Safety, Facility Services, Human Resources, Information Technology Services (ITS), Marketing and Communications, Research, Evaluation, Assessment, and Planning (REAP), and Student Services.

Since 1993, the Durham Tech Foundation has led the annual employee giving campaign known as the Campus Fund Drive. Every dollar raised goes directly to support students and staff through the Campus Harvest Food Pantry, emergency financial assistance, employee engagement and appreciation, professional development, and student scholarships.
