Introducing PaperCut: A New Printing System for Students
PaperCut has launched at the Main Campus Library this week . PaperCut is a print management system used to seamlessly monitor and control printing and copying. With PaperCut students are able to print and copy documents. PaperCut will be implemented in other computer labs and at other campuses at a later date. How does it work? Each Durham Tech student is issued a PaperCut account which is used to print and copy documents across all campuses. When a user prints or copies anywhere on campus, the
The Census Is Coming! (Well, it's already here.)
The 2020 Census Day is right around the corner! April 1 is the official Census Day, but many people have already received and completed their Census in the mail. Due to current health concerns, door-to-door data collection for non-respondents (yes, if you don't fill it out, they will contact you) has been delayed, but it is expected to resume at some point later in the year. Follow-up by mail will still occur. I'm going to be honest with you-- until very recently, I knew next to nothing about
Library Reads for International Women's Day
March 8 is International Women's Day and was created to focus on the achievements of women across the globe and emphasize the continued need to push for gender parity. This year's theme is "Choose to Challenge," acknowledging that gender bias left unchallenged allows it to continue. To celebrate International Women's Day, check out some of the books that the Durham Tech Library has online and in our physical collection to celebrate women's voices, accomplishments, and experiences. Coming to A Screen Near You: 2019 Book-to-Film Adaptations
There are a plethora of book adaptations coming out this year. Here are 5 books you can take home today and their upcoming screen counterparts. Be that "the book was better" person! In this honest and stunning novel, James Baldwin has given America a moving story of love in the face of injustice. Told through the eyes of Tish, a nineteen-year-old girl, in love with Fonny, a young sculptor who is the father of her child, Baldwin's story mixes the sweet and the sad. Tish and Fonny have pledged to
Happy Election Day!
For a bit of background history on why elections are held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, see this article on NPR. During the 2008 elections Nate Silver began making a name for himself by using statistics to more accurately predict election results. The library has a copy of his book, The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail But Some Don't, available under call number CB 158 .S54 2012. The book provides a fascinating look into why numbers used in elections
New Semester, New Goals (and pet pictures!)
After a year of working from home, we're (mostly) back on campus and ready for a great Fall 2021 semester. We all have goals for the new semester, but our work-from-home coworkers/roommates are excited to be setting new benchmarks for their success. Click through to read their goals cleverly used to promote some Library services (and see Library staff pet pictures-- I'm not trying to bury the lede too much here). Charlie and George Lewis are excited that their roommate, Orange County Campus
