The Durham Tech College and Career Readiness programs focus on developing basic reading, writing, and math skills to allow students to obtain a high school credential.
On Jan. 12, the Durham Tech Choir, under the direction of Dr. Norman Collins, brought the house down at Durham Tech’s 39th annual MLK celebration. The performances were so powerful, some audience members were in tears. With Collins conducting the faculty members comprising the choir delivered a memorable musical experience.
A lifetime of service by one of Durham’s native sons, Floyd B. McKissick Sr., is being honored in an exhibit at Durham Technical Community College in the D. Thomas Jaynes Art Gallery on the College’s Main Campus on Lawson Street.

From September through December, Durham Tech’s Campus Harvest Food Pantry took part in the fifth annual Collegiate Hunger Challenge, competing against 13 other colleges and universities. The challenge tackled food insecurity on college campuses and empowered students, employees and community members to create awareness about hunger as they competed to collect the most food for those experiencing hunger.

Sharia Warren, who has worked at Duke Health for 12 years and is currently a clinical specialist senior there, will finish Durham Tech in May with an applied science degree in clinical research, thanks in part to the encouragement her two daughters have provided.
“They are my cheerleaders,” the single mother says of her 17- and 10-year-old girls. “When school gets too tough and thoughts of giving up creep into my mind, my oldest will remind me of how far I’ve come.”

The Academic Calendar provides dates applicable to credit (curriculum) courses.
In January 2023, leading global healthcare company Novo Nordisk donated $6 million to Durham Tech, the largest corporate gift in the College’s history. In the year since the landmark gift, the partnership between Novo Nordisk and the College is already delivering results and creating a clear pathway for students interested in entering the biotechnology field.
January 2024 saw completion of the six-week BRIDGE program and the beginning of a new chapter for the 11 graduates of the second cohort in the Hayti Reborn-Justice Movement and Durham Tech collaboration that started in 2023.
Along with Kevin Lawrence’s regular duties as one of Durham Tech’s success coaches, Lawrence has taken on the roles of trainer, dietician and psychologist for a group of Durham Tech employees who have committed to follow him to make their lives healthier.
