Take a book with you on vacation!
Here are some brand new books that you can check out from the library this week or next week. Our new book shelf is stocked with many new fiction and nonfiction titles for you to borrow. Please note that the library will be closed Aug. 3 - Aug. 9th. We'll open again on Aug. 10th. Happy summer reading!
Welcome to Durham Tech Library's New Blog!
Welcome to the Durham Tech Library blog! I have been a librarian at Durham Tech since October 1989. In the past year, we have made significant improvements to the library space. Some of these, such as a library classroom and better soundproofing, have been needed since the library opened in 1987. In addition to new paint and carpet, we created a large group study room (learning commons), doubled the size of the computer lab to create a library instruction classroom/open computer lab, and added
Current Student IDs: Not Just for Main Campus Library Access!
Now that the first week of class is over (Congrats! You did it!), students should have stopped by the Security Office on Main Campus or Security Desk at the Northern Durham Center or Orange County Campus to order or update their student ID. Please be aware that students without updated Durham Tech student IDs will not be allowed into the Main Campus library starting on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015 (see below for more information on the ID policy). However, a current student ID doesn't just get you

Durham Tech's Favorites for Black History Month
It's nearing the end of Black History Month, so while our blog post topics may broaden, we'd like to leave you with some books by Black Americans that have made an impact on the Durham Tech community to read beyond just February because Black history is American history all year long. Keep reading for Durham Tech's favorite reads by Black American authors--fiction, nonfiction, poetry, art, environmental justice, social justice, criminal justice, economics, fantasy, and finance--, and for a

Term A Countdown: Simplifying Your End-of-Semester Tasks
Over 270 sections that began in mid-August are wrapping up next week. We know that you are very busy during this time period and need to focus on grading student work. To assist with your end of the semester tasks, we wanted to share some information about working in the Gradebook. Visibility icon on Students’ Total Grade A visibility icon may appear when an accurate Total Grade is not available for students. This does not affect the score that you see as the instructor. The score displays
What We're Reading - The Fire Sermon
This book was read by Meredith Lewis, a Reference Librarian at (mostly) the Orange County Campus Library. [caption id="attachment_2035" align="aligncenter" width="198"] The Fire Sermon by Francesca Haig[/caption] Why did you choose to read this book? If we’re being honest, the cover was impressive—a picture of a burned out Omega symbol with no other text and artistically “burned” corners. I picked it up, realized it was dystopian lit without a zombie apocalypse (nuclear destruction, yes) and not
Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff-- Please do not bring your bag of snakes to the library. Thank you.
It (probably?) should go without saying that snakes and other pets are not allowed in the Durham Tech Library, but just in case you were wondering, based on a pretty popular news article going around lately, service animals must be approved as per college policy. Snakes are not approved service animals. If you want to know more about snakes and other animals, check out books in call letter S (for some specific domestic animals) and QL (for animals galore!), including some of the awesome picks
