This July, recent Durham Tech graduate Liliana “Lili” Bolanos Arbaca participated in the University of North Carolina EDGE Genomic symposium. EDGE, or Educational Pathways to Increase Diversity in Genomics, is a two-year summer program providing training in research skills, career opportunities and mentoring to undergraduate students, specifically first-year students and sophomore from underrepresented and disadvantaged, who are interested in genomics careers.
Durham Tech has received a $400,000 High-Cost Healthcare Grant from the North Carolina Community College System to expand and strengthen its Emergency Medical Services program.
Dr. Tammy Bird, the director of Adult Basic Education at the College, dropped out of high school in the 10th-grade, but wound up being a first-generation college graduate, earning her master's degree in literature and her doctorate degree in adult and community college education. Now that Bird has accomplished her goals, she is helping Durham Tech students achieve theirs.
