Every September, the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) hosts Hill Day as an opportunity for thousands of Occupational Therapy students from across the country to travel to Washington, D.C., and voice their advocacy for occupational therapy.
Hill Day began in 1999, and about 10 years ago, Durham Tech’s Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) students began to participate.
All second-year students are welcome to attend Hill Day as a chance to complete their advocacy assignment required for OTA 245 Professional Skills III.

Leon Bradford, a Durham Tech student, has been selected as the Dallas Herring Achievement Award recipient by the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). This is the first time a student from Durham Tech has been selected for this statewide award.
The Fixed Prosthodontics Beginning Certificate is comprised of four courses. Upon completion, students should be able to fabricate advanced fixed restorations.
When most college students were sleeping in last Saturday morning, dental lab technology students at Durham Tech were giving back through the heart of dentistry.
Tim Platz is no stranger to challenging work and does not shy away from having many things going on at one time. Even with major life curveballs, he stayed focused, worked hard, followed his heart and is now sowing seeds for a future in the church.
“I worked at Goodyear as a teenager, had a son when I was 17, moved into landscaping because I needed extra money to support my family, went through a divorce at age 20 and have always looked for every opportunity to grow career-wise as well as personally. Durham Tech is now part of that journey, and the College has set me on a path toward the life I want,” Platz said.

Since moving to Durham at 14, Gracie Johnson-Lopez has witnessed Durham’s growth and progression.
"I experienced the segregated Durham, the manufacturing-to-industrialized Durham and the relentless Durham which refuses to settle,” she said. “I love the ways in which Durham continues to evolve and its rich history and diverse culture.”
Durham also was home to the educational institutions that put Johnson-Lopez on the path to becoming founder and president of Diversity & HR Solutions.

In addition to the many Continuing Education health and wellness programs offered at Durham Tech, we offer short courses that provide an introduction into the health care field, add new career skills, or help prepare students for certification exams.

Holly June has been on all sides of the student experience – from a student herself to a professional, to a teacher and then a teacher of teachers. She lives her mantra – to leave no road untraveled – through her work as an advisor, crafter, blogger, business owner and the new Director of Advising at Durham Tech.
June was named to the role on May 1. In three months, June led the development of a new advising online feature and spearheaded a new campus-wide event this fall that looks to engage and inform new students.
