News: Durham Tech taps Jerry Jones, former workforce engagement director at Pitt Community College, to head Center for Workforce Engagement

Durham Tech has announced the hiring of Jerry Jones, former Director of Career Services and Workforce Development at Pitt Community College, who will lead the College’s Center for Workforce Engagement.

Jones will lead a Center focused on providing high-quality customized training, small business support, and apprenticeship, internship and other work-based learning experiences for students. The Center is tasked also with ensuring strong relationships between the College and employers, county economic development leadership, and economic and workforce development organizations.

Jones received his Master of Science in Managerial Leadership and Bachelor of Science in Management from National-Louis University in Virginia. He started his career in engineering and telecommunications and worked in the advanced manufacturing sector before joining Pitt Community College. At Pitt, he led the College’s work on customized training and career services, developed apprenticeships, and managed relationships with companies in the utilities, advanced manufacturing and life sciences sectors, among others.

He joins Durham Tech at a time of major regional growth and employment opportunities in life sciences, IT, skilled trades, advanced manufacturing and health care. The College has made commitments to meet the workforce needs in these areas and to support the economic and social mobility of Durham and Orange County residents.

News: 60 for 60: Newton Makerspace unveils STEM-centered collaboration space for students
In September 2022, the Newton Makerspace was unveiled on Main Campus -- made possible by a contribution from Newton Instrument Company. The need for the high-tech makerspace was identified in 2018 when college leadership recognized the increase in industrial trades and the need to attract more students into this growing field. This type of collaborative, project-based learning environment would mirror the workplace through innovation -- supporting students in engineering, skilled trades, construction, art, welding, and design. 
News: Durham Tech Leader Attends National CEO Mentoring Institute
DURHAM, NC – Dr. Angela Davis, Vice President, Chief Talent and Equity Officer at Durham Technical Community College was a recent participant of the 2022 Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, which was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 2-7, 2022.

The Lakin Institute, which is sponsored by the Presidents’ Round Table of African American CEOs of Community Colleges, is a national professional development program designed with the intent of preparing senior-level executives for roles as community college chief executive officers and presidents.

Davis, a Durham resident, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive talent management strategy to leverage talent for institutional growth, while leading the development and implementation of proactive equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives to support the college’s strategic plan.

These Continuing Education courses introduce students to Network concepts as well as competencies and skills that allows students to install, configure, diagnose, perform preventive maintenance, and maintain basic networking on personal computers.
News: Holly June, new Director of Advising, celebrates students where they are
Holly June has been on all sides of the student experience – from a student herself to a professional, to a teacher and then a teacher of teachers. She lives her mantra – to leave no road untraveled – through her work as an advisor, crafter, blogger, business owner and the new Director of Advising at Durham Tech.

June was named to the role on May 1. In three months, June led the development of a new advising online feature and spearheaded a new campus-wide event this fall that looks to engage and inform new students.

Inside her office, dotted with pink DIY wall décor, June spoke about her career with a warm smile and a huggable spirit.
Self Care
Associate in General Education in Nursing
The Associate in General Education (AGE) in Nursing is designed for students who wish to begin their studies toward the Associate in Nursing degree and a Baccalaureate degree in Nursing.
Clinical Research - Data Management Certificate
Individuals are eligible to enroll in the Data Management certificate program if they have completed a Clinical Research AAS degree or any Clinical Research certificate, a baccalaureate or graduate degree in computer information systems, biological science, chemistry, or an allied health area, or have at least one year of pharmaceutical, biotechnological, or medical device industry experience in clinical data management.
