CARES Act Fund Report
Section 18004(e) of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act), directs institutions receiving funds to submit a report to the Secretary describing the use of funds distributed from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (“HEERF”).
News: Durham Tech grad makes leap from food and beverage industry to operating room
New Hampshire native and Durham Tech graduate Janice Lee came to North Carolina in 2015 and took a job in the food and beverage industry. But in the back of her mind, she knew she wanted to go back to school but she didn’t know what she wanted to study.

Lee began looking into job availability for surgical technicians, salaries and schools where she could obtain her surgical technician certification. Durham Tech was the only college in the area to offer the program.
Enrollment Steps for High School Seniors
High school seniors who have not yet graduated receive provisional acceptance to the college once they have completed the enrollment application and residency determination. View enrollment steps.
News: Durham Tech alumna, health care advocate to deliver 2024 Commencement keynote address
Durham Tech graduate and health care advocate Luzita Francis will be the College’s 2024 spring Commencement keynote speaker.
Francis had been a single mom of three for eight years when she enrolled at Durham Tech. One of her children graduated from Durham Tech’s Middle College as valedictorian. Her two sons also attended Durham Tech. One earned an architectural certificate. Her other son graduated from Durham Tech at the same time as his mother, and both Francis and he transferred to UNC-Chapel Hill. The two graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill together, as well.

The public is invited to an Open House at Durham Tech's new location at 3414 N. Duke St. on April 22 from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
News: Music recording classes teach valuable skills to more than aspiring music professionals
Students don’t have to desire to be famous or even stay in the music industry to benefit from the music recording classes at Durham Tech.
That is just one of the points that instructor and co-owner of Playground Studios, LLC, in Durham, Chaka Harley, wants to impress upon his classes.
News: Perry Endowment gives students opportunity to learn about lemurs
Readers may recall a previous feature about Cynthia Perry Garland, who established an endowment through a planned gift to support enrichment experiences for students in the Gateway to College and Adult High School/High School Equivalency programs.
Garland, a 1994 alumna of Durham Tech, credits the examples of her parents and brother as her inspiration to give back. When she was 5 years old, Garland watched as her mother went back to get her high school diploma. Garland’s father drove his wife to and from school every day and ensured Garland and her brother, Andrew, had their needs met. A champion of lifelong learning, Garland named the endowment The Perry Family Memorial Endowment for Student Enrichment.
News: William Peace University, Durham Tech announce new transfer partnership
William Peace University and Durham Technical Community College have entered a partnership to further the missions of both institutions.
The agreement will provide educational advancement opportunities for graduates of Durham Tech. WPU and Durham Tech also will collaborate on program innovations and needs and seek opportunities to advance the partnership.
News: Founding Board of Trustees open integrated College in 1961
When Durham Industrial Education Center opened its doors in 1961, it was a triumph for Durham County leaders who saw the center as a place to join two needs: a rapidly shifting industrial economy and the need to train Black and White residents for those jobs.
