The Center for Workforce Engagement supports the development and promotion of curriculum programming, short-term and certification training that meet labor market demand and increase employment opportunities for our community.
Students who want to follow a structured academic curriculum but have no intention of pursuing a baccalaureate degree may be best suited for the Associate in General Education (AGE) degree. This program is ideal for students who want to gain an associate degree for personal or professional goals, but do not intend to transfer to a four-year institution.
The Electrical Systems Technology Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree curriculum provides training for people interested in the installation and maintenance of electrical systems found in residential, commercial, and industrial facilities. Coursework is generally hands-on.
Tim Platz is no stranger to challenging work and does not shy away from having many things going on at one time. Even with major life curveballs, he stayed focused, worked hard, followed his heart and is now sowing seeds for a future in the church.
“I worked at Goodyear as a teenager, had a son when I was 17, moved into landscaping because I needed extra money to support my family, went through a divorce at age 20 and have always looked for every opportunity to grow career-wise as well as personally. DURHAM, NC – Dr. Angela Davis, Vice President, Chief Talent and Equity Officer at Durham Technical Community College was a recent participant of the 2022 Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership, which was held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania October 2-7, 2022.
The Lakin Institute, which is sponsored by the Presidents’ Round Table of African American CEOs of Community Colleges, is a national professional development program designed with the intent of preparing senior-level executives for roles as community college chief executive officers and presidents.
Davis, a Durham resident, is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive talent management strategy to leverage talent for institutional growth, while leading the development and implementation of proactive equity, inclusion, and diversity initiatives to support the college’s strategic plan.

U.S. Labor Secretary Marty Walsh joined Vice President Kamala Harris visit to Durham Technical Community College on Wednesday and highlighted the work of the College and the plans of the Biden Administration to grow and diversify registered apprenticeships.
