Ten Durham Tech Clinical Trials Research Associate students recently earned certificates from Duke University’s Engagement, Recruitment and Retention Certificate Program.
The construction and real estate downturn in 2009 propelled Durham Tech alumna Felicity “Fizzy” Little to look for a new, recession-proof career. She decided on law.
“Durham Tech was the only school offering a qualified Paralegal Associate degree,” Little said. “I had no real knowledge of Durham Tech prior to that, but it had the specialized program I needed so it was the place for me.”

Policies and Procedures Manual: The section contains policies and procedures relating to College employment, including leave and records management.
When the City of Durham experienced a nursing shortage in the 1960’s, Durham Tech responded in short order with a thriving practical nursing program that continues today.
It’s believed to be the College’s first community partnership program created to meet a vital need for the community. In recent years, the College has partnered with major employers in the Triangle to provide diverse talent and specialized programs.
In 2020, Durham Tech developed an Electrical Line Technician program to meet the need for line workers, as identified by Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Gas.
Both organizations helped fund the program. James Brandon Kidd, a 2022 graduate of the program, said his experience was extremely positive and he was excited to learn something new every day. Kidd secured a job with Duke Energy before he completed the program.
"I found a career that I am extremely excited about. I feel like I have a knack for it and I think this class helped to bring out those qualities and show me what the possibilities are throughout this journey,” Kidd said.

In clinicals and community, Durham Tech health care students at forefront in COVID-19 response
Students serve in clinical rotations as a part of health care classes and many have seen the impact of COVID-19 first hand. Now, some are working with community partners to combat COVID-19 outside of clinical experience.
Mechanical Engineering Technologists and Technicians review project instructions and blueprints to ascertain test specifications, procedures, and objectives, and test nature of technical problems such as redesign.
